Shoulder surgery :(

I have had shoulder pain since May, interfering with the Red Legs Run and races after that.  I have tried physical therapy, massages, chiropractor, and nothing has helped.  I finally went to the doctor, had an MRI, and it was determined I needed surgery to remove bone spurs, fraying and an augmentation of my rotator cuff.

With surgery on October 26, I will be unable to run for a while however my plan is to begin the couch to 5K program as soon as I'm cleared for running.  And I'm hoping the inability to run for a while will be a motivation to get moving again!

Meanwhile I'm walking about three miles, three times a week.  It is keeping me moving and getting in my steps.

I did have to miss the Thanksgiving Day 10K but that was mostly because Jody did not come down for the holiday and no one else was available to walk with me.

Brew Hogs again in 2018

The Hudy 7K finished out this year's beer series for Matt, Heather and me.  Because of my intense shoulder pain, I mostly walked but was able to catch up with Gail Corrill who I ran into after the first five minutes.

With encouragement from Gail and Kelly (her sister-in-law) I signed up for the 2019 beer series to motivate me to continue on my running journey.

The day was beautiful and there is a joy in walking which provides the opportunity to really take in the surroundings.

The shirts, medals mugs were really cool this year!

STOMP Addiction Logan's Run 5K Walk/Run

This race was part of the Camden Bicentennial on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018.  The route was just through town , out and around the cemetery and back.

It was a small race so my stats were good!

Red Legs Run 2018

The best part about the race today is that it was Sonia's first race and she was all about winning!  I have a little runner in my family.

And this from the RedLegs Run website!

Shamrock Shuffle 2018

This is always a special race because it was my first race in 2013.  This made my 6th Shamrock Shuffle.

I was 5th in my new age group which unfortunately goes up to 97 years old but I was happy with my time.

Bockfest 2018

After a long year of waiting, we got a second chance to do Bockfest as a family.  The Flying Pig Office was kind enough to discount some of our registrations since we missed the race last year due to weather and an accident on the interstate.

As usual, it was a blast!  I love this race, possibly more than any others.

And Nicki and I completed the first leg of our beer series after signing up last September!

Happy birthday to me!

Michael (my running mentor from the beginning of this journey) sent me "The Zen of Running" book.

I bought new shoes that I'm pretty sure are the best Brooks Ghosts I have ever owned.

And thanks Runkeeper for making today even better with this email!

2018 Cyclones Frozen 5K

This race is always a great way to start the year.  I wasn't as excited as usual but once I was there I was glad I had signed up (at a ridiculously inexpensive cost last fall of $20/person).  We ran into some of Andy's friends before the race.

Sonia was even excited though she did not get to ride on the course in the stroller because it was just too cold.  She headed to the finish line with Grandpa to get hot chocolate.

I ran into my friend Angela on the course and ran with her until we got to the 5K/10K split.

And we love the shirt this year!
