Cincinnati Race Weekend - Beer Series & Flying Pig

The Fifty West Mile (formerly the Little Kings Mile)
This was leg two of the Brew Hog beer series.  Since it was the night before the Flying Pig 5K we spent the night in Cincinnati.  Andy missed the race because they took the kids to the Reds game.  Cartoon and I had a great time!

Flying Pig 5K
I always wanted to do this race and it did not disappoint.  The downtown route was different than other races we have been in.  Cartoon and I ran the whole 5K and though our time was slower than we hoped, we felt good about conquering the hilly route.

Shamrock Shuffle 2019 - My 7th consecutive year

We were so excited to see there was going to be a medal this year!  And we love the shirts!  They look black but are actually navy blue.  And what a surprise that my Facebook Memories picture was my first race and first Shamrock Shuffle in 2013.

Jody, Nik, Cartoon and I ran together and Cartoon and I finished at about the same time.  Her PR and first race to run the entire 5K!  (It is always best with Jody coaching us to keep running, run slower, finish strong.)

Sonya ran the Leprechaun Lap and was faster than a lot of the 5 year olds, even with her sore toe.

Bockfest 2019

My favorite race did not disappoint!  Had a great day!

Getting ready and heading out.

Where's Auriel?  Near the starting line.

Loved these Flying Pig hats!

Then lunch at Findley Market.

One special note, the TQL Beer Series had some great marketing this year.  Loved their hashtags like #YouBock, #BockStars and #BockOn.

Frozen 5K 2019

After over a month of running with the 10K Runner Program, Cartoon and I felt ready to conquer the Cincinnati Cyclones 5K even if we weren't able to run the entire race.  As it turned out we had pretty good times so we probably ran to fast when we did run.

This year the shirt was great and the race came with a medal!  It was pretty good weather considering how cold it has been lately and there were only a few slippery spots on the course.

All in all, we had a blast and are ready to have a great year of running!

Happy New Running Year!

Cartoon and I are on our way to 5K (and beyond).  We are running every other day and are up to week five of the 10K Runner app.  We finished this run last night running up the Locust/Sandra hill at the end of it.  We have also been doing some of our training at the Rec Center since it is cold and dark in the evenings.

Our first race is the Cincinnati Cyclones 5K on February 2nd and we can't wait.  We love the shirts and there is a medal this year that is also very cool!

We are also planning to do the Shamrock Shuffle (with Sonia doing the Leprechaun Lap) and Bockfest 5K.  And we are considering the Queen Bee Half in October.

It's going to be a very good running year!

Shoulder surgery :(

I have had shoulder pain since May, interfering with the Red Legs Run and races after that.  I have tried physical therapy, massages, chiropractor, and nothing has helped.  I finally went to the doctor, had an MRI, and it was determined I needed surgery to remove bone spurs, fraying and an augmentation of my rotator cuff.

With surgery on October 26, I will be unable to run for a while however my plan is to begin the couch to 5K program as soon as I'm cleared for running.  And I'm hoping the inability to run for a while will be a motivation to get moving again!

Meanwhile I'm walking about three miles, three times a week.  It is keeping me moving and getting in my steps.

I did have to miss the Thanksgiving Day 10K but that was mostly because Jody did not come down for the holiday and no one else was available to walk with me.

Brew Hogs again in 2018

The Hudy 7K finished out this year's beer series for Matt, Heather and me.  Because of my intense shoulder pain, I mostly walked but was able to catch up with Gail Corrill who I ran into after the first five minutes.

With encouragement from Gail and Kelly (her sister-in-law) I signed up for the 2019 beer series to motivate me to continue on my running journey.

The day was beautiful and there is a joy in walking which provides the opportunity to really take in the surroundings.

The shirts, medals mugs were really cool this year!
